Your differences are not defects

A hand-lettered and illustrated artwork of a dog (named Charlie) in a wheelchair, with "your differences are not defects" lettered around him

Charlie the Wheelchair Woofer has had a lil summery makeover and he’s back with this important message 💕⁣

I saw this quote and it really resonated with me, so I decided to letter it in case it resonates (and helps) somebody else. As someone who is literally described as having “faulty” genes, I know that seeing beauty in your own body, or even just appreciating that it’s doing a good job, can feel impossible at times. ⁣

I thoroughly hated my body when I was growing up, for a bunch of different reasons. This all resulted in body dysmorphia, which resulted in an eating disorder. Learning that my body wasn’t actually “wrong” was a mission and a half. Learning to love my body is another mission entirely – a mission that’s definitely still ongoing. But during the times that I struggle, I remind myself that those quirky little genes of mine aren’t actually defective – they’re just different.

If you’re struggling with something similar, whatever it may be, remind yourself of this quote. The things that make you different don’t make you defective IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM K?! ❤️ (They actually make you even more beautiful, but we’ll save that for another day.) ⁣
