Back in 2018, Woodside Animal Centre in Leicester ran a competition to design a Christmas card, which would then be printed and sold to raise funds for the centre. This was my entry – I named him Charlie the Wheelchair Woofer, in memory of my doggo who passed away in 2017 (although my Charlie was a Bichon Frise so looked nothing like this Charlie, and he was able-bodied.) This was all lovingly hand-drawn on my iPad (I won’t tell you how many hours I spent on it… you’d probably cry…) I wanted to create something that advocates for the dogs that are often overlooked – the Staffordshire bull terrier types, and the dogs with health issues/ disabilities.
And guess what?! Along with eight other entries, mine was a winner!! Seeing my drawing professionally printed, sitting in a shop, and raising vital funds for an incredible animal charity, was truly the most wonderful feeling. I’ll never get over it.
