Black cats are for life

I drew this to celebrate National Black Cat Day here in the UK. This is Milly, she’s 16 years old (as of June 2020) and she’s been with me since I was 7 – that’s over two thirds of my life!

She’s the sassiest little person you could possibly meet, but she’s also a big softie when she wants to be. I can’t imagine growing up without her. And yet, in most parts of Europe black cats are still considered to be bad omens. In reality, getting to be the human of a little black cat like Mil is nothing short of magical. I’m the luckiest.

If you’re thinking of adopting a cat, please don’t overlook the beautiful black cats who desperately need homes. And the same goes for black dogs, too. I promise you won’t regret it.

Also, I can’t post this without mentioning her sister, who passed away at the age of 7. Her name was Mittens and she meant everything to us.
